How do I become a member of SVCC?
A. Go to the Join Now page; If you meet the requirements based on the information provided, read, complete and submit the form. You will be added to our mailing list and invited to our next orientation meeting. To become a member eligible to participate in volunteer activities, download/print out the membership form and submit with your one time, non-refundable fee of $25. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us.
How often does the group meet?
A. SVCC does not hold regular meetings. Initially we anticipate volunteer events to be two or three times per month. As we become more active the activities will increase. We also hold social events every few months and invite prospective members and our nonprofit friends.
How will I learn about upcoming events?
A. Check this website regularly. We post all new events online and we may mass email announcements to all registered members about new volunteer opportunities and socials.
If I join, what are my obligations?
A. Your obligations are few and very simple:
If you sign up for a volunteer opportunity, then show up on time and stay to the end of the event. We realize that emergencies come up... in that event you are responsible to let your volunteer leader know so appropriate arrangements can be made. Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel.
You need to check your email and our website regularly. Projects are organized on a first-come first-served basis so if you wait until the last minute you may not be able to participate on a project.
Encourage your single friends to join us. Our monthly meetings are open so that anyone who may want to join can check us out without obligation.
Participate, meet new people, and enjoy yourself.
Is there a fee to join?
A. Yes, we have a one time, non-refundable initiation fee of $25.00. The fee goes toward costs for marketing, website maintenance and club incidentals like printing, advertising etc.
What if I want to join but don't have an email address?
A. SVCC does most of it's contacting through email, and because of this it is extremely difficult to be an active member without access to the internet so we suggest that you obtain an email address.
There are free email services through CapeCod.com, Hotmail and Yahoo, all of which can be accessed through the internet at your public library or local internet cafes.
Are children allowed at Volunteer Projects and Socials?
A. NO. Due to a myriad of liability issues, SVCC's policy is that children are not allowed to attend events sponsored by this organization. If there is an exception to this rule it will be stated in event listing.
What do you mean by a committed relationship?
A. Our motto is...Let your conscience be your guide. If you feel as if you are in an exclusive relationship that precludes you from accepting dates or invitations from another member solely on that basis, then you are not a candidate for SVCC. All we ask is that if you join you are open and available to form new friendships and possible relationships.
What are the Team Leader responsibilities?
1) Serve as the SVCC representative for a one-time event.
2) Respond to and register volunteers for the volunteer event using an e-mail account provided by SVCC.
3) Answer questions of the SVCC volunteers as they contact you.
4) Confirm participation of the volunteers, provide directions and specific details such as appropriate dress, meeting time and location.
5) Close the event for sign ups when you have enough volunteers.
6) Arrive at the event early and stay for the entire duration of the event.
7) Greet and introduce SVCC volunteers to each other as they arrive and have nametags available.
8) Keep volunteers working as groups to give them an opportunity to socialize with each other.
9) Plan/attend an optional after event networking activity (dinner, lunch, etc.) following the event.
10) Complete a simple evaluation form of the event afterwards and forward to SVCC leadership.
What if I become involved in a committed relationship?
A. Being in a dating relationship does not preclude you from being a member. If you are involved in an exclusive committed relationship, we leave it up to you as to whether you join or continue membership. Our motto is...Let your conscience be your guide. If you feel that your relationship prevents you from enjoying the company of other singles solely on that basis, then that is you decision. All we ask is that our members are open to form new friendships and committed to volunteering in the community.
